Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes
The signs and symptoms of diabetes depend on whether you
have
Type 1 or
Type 2 Diabetes.
With
Type 1 Diabetes, which is found mainly in
children, the beginning of symptoms can be very quick.
Within months, a young
Type 1 Diabetic may experience signs of
frequent urination, thirstiness, weight loss, elevated
appetite and tiredness. Sometimes, the diabetic
may also experience changes in vision because drawn out
high blood sugar levels may change the profile of the
lens of the eye. The high blood sugar levels also
cause the thirstiness. As the excessive amount of
glucose is released from the kidneys, it uses
water to take it into the blood stream causing
dehydration.
Diabetics may also experience signs of uncontrolled
diabetes such as the smell of acetone on the breath,
brisk/intense breathing, and hostility towards others.
In extreme diabetes cases, the diabetic may fall into a
diabetic coma and die.
A
Type 2 Diabetic may also experience
the above signs of Diabetes, but these symptoms will
usually take years to develop. However, these
symptoms can be controlled through proper blood glucose
testing and diet.
